Instagram highlights are stories that stay
Highlights are the round covers under a profile’s bio: stories the owner chose to keep after their 24 hours. Type a username and you get the profile’s highlights tray; tap a cover to open it and every item appears with its date and a Download button. The account’s current stories are shown above the tray.
What a highlight contains
A highlight is a collection: the owner picks stories, gives them a title and a cover, and they stay on the profile until the owner removes them. Each item keeps the date it was first posted as a story, and the tiles show it. Photos and videos open in the same viewer as stories, with a Download button for each one and the arrows to step through the rest.
Open a highlight from its link
Open the highlight in Instagram, tap ⋯ and choose Copy link. The app gives a short link like instagram.com/s/aGlnaGxpZ2h0…; the website shows instagram.com/stories/highlights/1789…/ in the address bar. Both work: paste either one here and that highlight opens directly.
Download a whole highlight
Download all saves the items one after another, up to 20 per run, so your browser isn’t flooded with downloads at once; a longer highlight shows how many were saved, and the rest can be saved from their own buttons. Photos are saved as images, videos as MP4, in the order Instagram returns them.
How to download Instagram highlights
- Copy the account’s username, or open a highlight in Instagram and use ⋯ → Copy link.
- Paste it here, or type the username, and press Enter.
- Tap a highlight cover, then Download on an item or Download all.
Where downloaded highlights are saved
iPhone and iPad
Safari shows a download arrow in the address bar. The file is in the Files app under Downloads; open it there and tap Share → Save Video or Save Image to put it in Photos.
Android
Chrome says when the download is complete. The file is in the Downloads folder of the Files app, and gallery apps usually list it in a Download album.
Computer
The file goes to your browser’s download folder, named after the account and the highlight and the item’s number, for example natgeo_highlight_17890123456_1.jpg (a video item ends in .mp4).

Where do I find a highlight link?
Open the highlight in Instagram, tap ⋯ and choose Copy link. The short instagram.com/s/… link the app gives works here, and so does the instagram.com/stories/highlights/… link of the website.
Why is a highlight missing?
The owner removed it, the account is private, or Instagram didn’t return it. Try again later.
Can I view Instagram highlights without an account?
Yes. You don’t need an Instagram account, and we never ask for your password.
Why do highlight items show old dates?
Each item keeps the date it was first posted as a story, even if it was added to the highlight later.
Can I view Instagram highlights without them knowing?
Your Instagram account isn’t used, so nothing is shown under your name.
