View an Instagram profile picture in full size
In the app a profile picture is a small circle. Type the username and this page shows the picture as large as Instagram provides it, as a square image, with a Download button. When Instagram offers a high-resolution copy the button says HD; otherwise you get the standard one. We don’t upscale or “enhance” it.
Why a profile picture can look small
Instagram keeps profile pictures at a limited size. When it has a high-resolution copy for the account, that is the one you get; otherwise you get the standard copy, which is smaller and can look soft when enlarged. The file you save is exactly what Instagram has, as a JPEG named after the account, for example natgeo_profile_hd.jpg.
The rest of the public profile
The result is the account’s public profile card: name, bio, follower and post counts, and links to its posts and stories when they are public. The lookup runs on the service’s own connection to Instagram, so nothing is shown to the account under your name.
How to download an Instagram profile picture
- Copy the username or the profile link (⋯ → Copy profile URL in Instagram).
- Paste it here, or type the username, and press Enter.
- Tap Download under the picture.
Where the profile picture is saved
iPhone and iPad
Safari shows a download arrow in the address bar. The file is in the Files app under Downloads; open it there and tap Share → Save Image to put it in Photos.
Android
Chrome says when the download is complete. The file is in the Downloads folder of the Files app, and gallery apps usually list it in a Download album.
Computer
The file goes to your browser’s download folder, named after the account and the picture, for example natgeo_profile_hd.jpg when Instagram has a large version.
Instagram profile picture downloader: questions and answers
How do I see an Instagram profile picture in full size?
Type the username here and press Enter. The picture opens as a square at the largest size Instagram provides, with a Download button.
What is an Instagram DP?
DP stands for display picture: the profile picture shown in a circle on an Instagram profile. This page shows it as a square image you can save.
How big is the picture?
The largest size Instagram provides. We don’t upscale or “enhance” it.
Does it work for private accounts?
Profile pictures are public even on private accounts, so the picture is shown. Posts and stories of a private account normally are not.
Will the person know I looked?
Your account isn’t used, so nothing is shown under your name.
Why do I get the default grey avatar?
The account hasn’t set a profile picture.
Can I use the picture?
It belongs to the person. Keep it for reference only.
Can I see an earlier profile picture?
No. Instagram only gives the current one.
Can I paste a profile link instead of the username?
Yes. Paste the link Instagram gives you (⋯ → Copy profile URL), with or without https://, or type the username with or without the @.
Do I need to log in or give my Instagram password?
No. We never ask for it, and your Instagram account is never used: the lookups run on the service’s own connection to Instagram.

A username lookup on this page is one call to our REST API: GET /api/userinfo/:username returns the same data as JSON. Send your key in the X-API-Key header.
